Knife Care

Your knife is hand-made from start to finish. Each and every blade that comes from our forge is a labor of love; the detail and craftsmanship that goes into them is second to none. Your knife is a tool that, with proper care, will last a lifetime. However, as with all tools, some basic care and maintenance will keep it performing its best when you need it most:

Sharpening

Regular stropping or touching up the edge on a fine ceramic rod will help lengthen the life of the edge. Your knife will need to be sharpened based on the amount of use it gets and the type of material you cut with it. If you are not comfortable with sharpening you knife, simply ship it back to us and we’ll do it for you. The only cost to you is shipping.

Corrosion Resistance

Many of our knives are made with high carbon tool steels. This makes them easy to sharpen and hold and edge. However, it also makes the steel susceptible to corrosion. We recommend you keep a thin layer of oil on your knife to prevent rust, especially if you are using it in a wet or damp environment. Any clear oil will work. Examples include: mineral oil, gun oils, mink oil, WD40, or even petroleum jelly (i.e. Vaseline) if the situation is dire.

Sheath Care

You sheath is also hand-made from scratch. It is custom molded to fit your specific knife. Our Kydex sheaths can be completely disassembled to clean after use. We highly recommend you do this, especially if you are in an environment where dirt or sand can get into the sheath. Drawing a knife with sand or dirt in the sheath may scratch and damage your blades finish. For our leather sheaths, it is recommended you use some form of leather care product on your sheath to soften and prolong its life. We recommend mink oil or saddle soap.
